5 Tips to Endure a Long Flight

The upside to a long flight is a lack of connecting flights. You won’t have to worry about deplaning from one flight and having to rush through a crowded airport to make your connecting one. However, the downside is having to sit for a long period of time on an airplane. This can get boring, especially on flights that last for over 14 hours.
Come Mentally Prepared
You’ll be on the plane for a long period of time, so you need to be ready for what’s to come. The proper mindset involves relaxation (consider this to be a day off from work and the rest of your life) and a positive attitude. There’s nothing worse than being that cranky person that the other passengers are stuck with for 14 plus hours.
Drink Plenty of Fluids
You might be tempted to not drink many fluids in flight, lest you have to use the restroom repeatedly, but this is a bad idea. Remember that airplane air tends to be dry, and you’ll begin to dehydrate and not feel good if you don’t drink enough water.
Don’t Forget the Snacks
You not only need to stay hydrated on the plane, but you’ll also need to keep yourself from getting hungry. Most longer flights provide some snacks, as well as a meal, however, things like peanut butter crackers, trail mix, and granola bars will give you something to munch on in between.
Stand Up and Stretch Your Legs
There’s a reason why people who tend to sit for long periods of time have to worry about embolisms and blood clots – they mess up their circulation with their stagnant habits. This means that you need to get up at least once per hour and take a few steps around the cabin of the plane. You’ll feel better, and won’t have to worry about untoward health consequences.
You’ll need to stay entertained while on your flight. Sure, you could look out the window, but after an hour or so of looking at clouds and cities from afar, you’ll get pretty bored. This is why you need to bring things to keep yourself busy. Some suggestions include books, downloaded videos and music, and even hobbies that keep your hands busy, incl knitting. (Yes, as long as you don’t use scissors, circular thread cutters, or anything that resembles a knife, you can bring your knitting on a plane.) Also, I suggest bringing a tablet or small computer with you.
