Reasons to Stay at Shutters on the Beach, Santa Monica, CA
If you’ve been looking for some beachside bliss, look no further than Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica, California. This ocean front hotel lives up to its name, as it is literally on the beach, as well as a few minutes’ walk to both the Santa Monica Pier and the 3rd Street Promenade. Shutters is a chic luxury hotel filled with rooms that have private balconies and ocean views, a spa, and one of the top restaurants in the Santa Monica/Los Angeles area – One Pico.
There are a number of great things about Shutters on the Beach, Santa Monica. For one, it’s a great beach hotel – there’s no way that you can get any closer to the sand! This makes it a great place to escape to with your spouse or significant other for a kids-free getaway.
The building itself has a quintessential Southern Californian craftsman-style vibe on the outside, while the inside is elegantly appointed with unique touches. Each room has some charming details, including handpicked books, yoyos and balls to juggle, and you’ll love the Jacuzzi tubs in the bathrooms. The hotel lobby is charming and cozy, thanks to its multiple fireplaces, and the staff is friendly and laid back – exactly what you’d expect from a place with such a California vibe.
Food and Wine
I highly recommend having dinner at One Pico. (Make sure to ask for a table near the window so that you can enjoy the stunning views of the ocean and the pier.) The breakfast room, called the Coast Rest, has a really relaxing and peaceful atmosphere, as you sit and eat while listening to the birds singing. There is also complimentary coffee and tea in the lobby – so you can fuel up for a long day of fun on the beach. If you plan on sitting on their outdoor patio (which I highly recommend doing later in the day with a cocktail in hand) get there early, as there are only six tables. Otherwise, you may end up having to wait.
Activities at Your Footstep
If you don’t want to spend your day on the sand, the hotel spa has a wonderful relaxation lounge, or you can rent a bike right outside of the lobby for $10 an hour. Within biking distance are the center of Santa Monica, the 3rd Street Promenade (great for shopping), the Santa Monica Pier, and Venice Beach. If that doesn’t sound like fun, there’s also a gym on the site, so you can work out to your heart’s content.
The pool area was absolutely beautiful, and it had lovely views of the ocean and the beach, but the water was slightly on the cold side in October. Everything else about Shutters on the Beach, Santa Monica was perfect. I will definitely be back!
