Hövding: An Amazing Safety Innovation For Your Next Destination Bike Ride

If your next trip involves renting bicycles and taking in some local scenery, then you’ll want to make sure that you and your loved ones are safe. After all – cars are safe, since they have air bags, but what about bicycles? Even if you wear a helmet, it’s not fully protecting your head from the curb, should something go awry. This is where the Hövding comes in.

What’s the Hövding?

The Hövding is an airbag helmet designed for bicyclists. It sits on your head, as a helmet would, but it inflates, like an airbag. When you put it on, it simply looks like a fabric hood that loops around your neck and zips securely up to your chin. However, the Hövding contains an on/off switch, as well as LEDs, to tell you whether or not the batteries in it are fully charged. Once the Hövding hood is around your neck, flip the switch into the “on” position, and it inflates. Because the Hövding is made of air-filled plastic, the device conforms to the exact shape of your head, and will stay on securely as you ride your bike. When you are done with your bike ride, turn the device off, and it will deflate. Its shape and size make it easy to take with you on trips, and its batteries charge via a standard USB plug.

What makes the Hövding different than a helmet?

A helmet generally consists of a hard outer shell, and softer, shock-resistant lining. While it will protect your head in case of an accident, it isn’t nearly as efficient or comfortable to wear as the Hövding. Tests have shown that the Hövding works better than a helmet, since it covers and conforms to your head and neck. Standard helmets do come in a variety of sizes, but they are not as exact as the Hövding. The Hövding can survive several impacts, cushioning the blows, should you fall off of your bike.

I don’t know about you, but I’m going to buy a few Hövding helmets for myself and the members of my family, so we’re prepared for our next trip. I suggest you do the same, since you can never be too careful. It’s always a good idea to invest in these types of innovative safety products!
