Reasons to Stay at Disneyland’s Grand Californian Hotel and Spa in Anaheim, CA - U.S.A.
May 31, 2016
The Disneyland Grand Californian Hotel and Spa in Anaheim, California was designed with Disney Magic in mind. There are several different types of rooms to choose from – all family friendly – plus numerous on site restaurants. The hotel’s Disney adjacent location comes with many perks, and you can’t overlook the spa treatments, which are just what mom needs after a long day at the park. It’s not every day that you can say that you stayed in a kid-friendly luxury hotel. I’d wondered for years what it would be like to stay here, and now that I have, it’s my top Disney destination.
Worth It For the Location Alone
The location of this hotel simply can’t be beat if you’re a Disney fan! The hotel has a private entrance to Disneyland specifically for anyone staying there. On top of that, this special entrance isclose to California Adventure, making it easy to beat the lines. The hotel itself is near the Downtown Disney District – a quick walk that is very much worth it. If you have mobility issues, then this is the best place to stay, due to the easy access to the amusement parks. On top of that, the Napa Rose restaurant – my favorite when it comes to Disney – is on hotel property.
Not only are you staying practically in Disneyland, all guests receive special early access to the park – an hour early! Talk about beating the lines! This extra hour truly is magic, due to the experience and the beautiful morning views alone; you’re in a huge amusement park with very few people, so interacting with the costumed employees is easy to do. (As in, your children won’t have to wait for very long to meet with Goofy or Minnie Mouse, earning you bonus points in their eyes.) Well worth waking the kids up for!
If this is your kid’s first time visiting Disneyland, there are special badges that you can ask for. (They also give them out if you’re spending your birthday at the park.) You can receive them at either the hotel, or inside Disneyland itself. The process is simple: you fill out your child’s name on the badge, your child places the badge on his or her clothing, and then all day long he or she receives special greetings from the employees. We went there for my oldest daughter’s birthday and she got a big kick out of everyone wishing her a “happy birthday” all day long.
The hotel has three pools!
The resort has 3 different pools depending on your desired experience. There is a waterslide leading to one pool, and then 2 all purpose pools (1 smaller and 1 large.) My kids had fun switching between all of them, which made for a nice, relaxing end to several Disney-filled days.
Designed for families
This hotel was definitely designed with families in mind, so be prepared - you’ll spend your entire time there surrounded by loud, but happy kids. They have plenty of activities planned inside of the hotel, so you won’t have to find other things for your kids to do in case of rain. For example, we were there around Halloween, and they had a special Trick or Treat time for the kids. Plus, the many different food options will keep even the pickiest eaters happy. As a caveat, the wi-fi signal was a bit weak, the rooms are slightly dated, and the lobby was just ever-so-dark, but the magic of being so close to Disneyland more than made up for everything, and we will be back!
Disclaimer: Thank you Grand Californian Hotel and Spa, for a wonderful stay! This stay was not part of a campaign.
